• The White House might seem like a gigantic residence with its 132 rooms and 35 bathrooms spread over six levels. But Buckingham Palace has 775 rooms with 78 baths in its 828,000 square feet of space. The White House is just 55,000 square feet.
• In the world of transportation, a London double-decker bus has room for 72 passengers. Compare this with the Mayflower, which held 130 people. The Titanic had room for 2,453, but its passengers numbered only 2,208. The Queen Elizabeth II (QEII) can hold 2,931, and the Boeing 787 seats 323.
• The world contains about 1,350 potentially active volcanoes, about 500 of which have erupted in historical time. The U.S. and its territories are home to 161 of these potentially active, ranking third in numbers behind Indonesia and Japan. Many of these are located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, which is where the Pacific Plate connects with many surrounding tectonic plates.
• Each normal human cell contains 23 pairs of chromosomes, a total of 46. Twenty-two pairs, known as autosomes, are the same in males and females. The 23rd pair differ, with females having two “X” chromosomes, and the male has one “X” and one “Y.”

The 13th amendment, ratified in 1865, abolished slavery, while the 19th amendment gave women the right to vote in 1920. Presidential term limits were established by the 22nd amendment in 1951, limiting the Chief Executive to two elected terms. A total of 27 Constitutional Amendments have been ratified, although just 25 are currently active. No longer active are the 18th Amendment, which created Prohibition in 1919, and the 21st Amendment, which repealed it in 1933. The most recent amendment, added in 1992, dealt with the compensation of U.S. Congress members. About 10,000 amendments have been proposed throughout the country’s history, but just 27 have been ratified.
• From April, 2021 to April, 2022, the world experienced 63,152 earthquakes. The vast majority, 46,421, were a magnitude of between 3 and 4 on the Richter scale. Just 132 were above a magnitude of 6, and 14 quakes exceeding a 7.
